Getting a Job As a Teen

That's right. It's that scary three letter word that sends chills down every teenager’s spine, along with the word work. Getting a job as a teenager really isn't as bad as some may say or think. Getting a job as a teen actually has a lot of benefits. You make money, prepare yourself for college, and you develop great social skills.
The biggest reason teens should get a job and why they should be excited about it is the money. When you begin work you will earn a good amount of money that you can put towards anything. You could save for college, a car or something else. Or you could have spending money for whatever you want to do. You wouldn’t have to depend on your parents giving you money anymore. You could have your own pay check and become independent.
Another reason teens should be getting a job right now is it will prepare you for college and independent living. You learn responsibility and independence by working for yourself. One day you will be on your own and if you get a job you will be able to take care of yourself. It would also look great on applications for colleges and future jobs. Many colleges look for well-rounded people who have skills and traits that are developed from working at a job. It could help your chances of getting into great schools.
A third reason teens would want to get a job is you develop great social skills and traits for future jobs as I stated before. When you have to work to earn your money you become responsible for everything you do. You have many people relying on you which also helps develop people skills. Working in customer service can especially help because you learn patience and kindness while dealing with all sorts of people.  You are able to become a better, well-rounded individual.
Some people say they have no time, no ride, their parents say no, or it’s too much work but it would be well worth it. With all the benefits that come to you like money and life skills, there isn’t really a good enough reason to not get a job. You don’t want to miss a great chance of developing yourself, and the money is a big plus.
All in all, getting a job as a teen would help develop new skills, earn you some good money, and prepare you for the independence of college. So get a job right now, you won’t regret it.

  1. I love this topic idea!! Most high schoolers hate to do any sort of work and they are not ready for one. But it is a great idea with so many great benefits. A high school job gets kids ready for the real world and what is really out there, it is way worse than high school and many people don't want to realize that yet. Many think the real world is all gum drops and roses like high school, and a job while you are a teen helps you realize that its not.
