Sorry for the awful pun, but it’s true. It’s the season for
stuffy noses, sore throats, and calling in sick. Once the winter season starts
the germs hit. Classes become smaller and smaller as kids stay home sick. I don’t
think we realize how bad it gets during this season. If you haven’t gotten sick
already, I promise you will.
I have been home sick at least 3 times this semester and
right now I have an awful cold. I got it from my friend, she also gave it to a
few of my other friends and I gave it to my friend. The cycle will continue and
tons of other people will be sick. I can’t tell you how many of my friends are
sick right now with something. It ranges from bad colds all the way to mono. It’s
gotten really bad this season. I know that this happens every year but it seems
really crazy this year.
I know that it’s pretty much inevitable that you will get
sick but here are some tips on trying to avoid it:
- Wash your hands regularly and try not to touch your face too much. That’s how germs can be spread to your body.
- Don’t share food, drinks or chap sticks with people who are sick. That’s a great way for the germs to get in you.
- If you do feel sick, stay home. You don’t want to get other people sick because you thought you were okay. I know you may miss stuff in class but it’s better to feel good and be able to concentrate rather than feel like crap.
- Get vaccinated. This is more of a responsibility for your parents but it helps a lot to prevent you from getting sick.
- Try to keep a healthy diet and exercise. It’s much harder for your body to get sick if its strong and healthy.
- Get enough sleep. I know, as a teenager that sounds pretty impossible with our busy schedules but trust me, it will help.
I know these sound kind of dumb or a little hard but it will
really help you. I didn’t follow these tips and that’s why I’m sick now. You will
most likely get sick this season and if you do I would wrap yourself up in a
blanket, eat some soup and try to get better. It’s never fun getting sick.
