Soccer is Life!

One thing I have not talked about much on my blog is soccer. I have been playing for at least 12 years and it’s basically my life. I have been playing for AYSO since I was 5. AYSO stands for American Youth Soccer Organization and I play U19. That means I play with guys and girls ages 15-19. We play outdoor during the fall and spring season and indoor during the winter. I have also been playing for my high school for the past 2 years during the spring season.
Playing with guys for the past 3 years has really toughened me up. We don’t have coaches or set teams, we just show up, split into teams and start playing. At first the guys didn’t think the girls could keep up so they mainly stuck together and only passed to each other. Once they finally figured out that girls are good too, they started passing and playing more. Now we all play as a team and it doesn’t matter whether we’re girls or guys. Guys are a lot more aggressive and physical while girls have more skill and are faster. Playing together we have taught each other a lot. The guys have begun to use more skill while playing to keep up with the girls and the girls are a lot more physical to keep up with the guys.
On my high school team, it’s only girls and my experience playing with guys has given me a slight advantage. A lot of girls on my team are a little timid and not aggressive enough. I’m a lot more physical since I’m so used to guys being aggressive. I was the top scorer because I didn’t stop until I got the goal. We went undefeated last year and I had so much fun. I absolutely loved my team and messing around with them at practices. Having my friends playing with me really made the sport even more fun.
Soccer has been my favorite thing to do since I was little and I could never live without it. I may not be that great at it but I have a lot of fun so I still play. If there is something you love to do and its fun, just do it. It doesn’t matter if you’re not that great, if you love it you should do it. Always do whatever you love.
